Like most everything else, live in-person Hunter's Education classes have been cancelled or postponed.The DEC is offering online instruction in 2020. We hope to resume classroom instruction at some point soon. Click the button below for more information:
In addition to regular hunter education, NYS DEC has announced that they will also be offering the bowhunter education class online due to COVID-19. Further information can be found on their website.
A New York State Trapper Education Course is required to purchase a trapping license in New York and set traps to catch wild game. Topics covered include:

Trapping safety, techniques, ethics, and responsibilities

Preparing pelts to produce marketable furs

For anyone who has taken a Sportsman Education Course and has lost their certificate, you can do the following:
Replace a Lost Certificate
Call 1-888-HUNT-ED2. You will be asked for your name, date of birth, type of course you took and when and where you took the course. Certificates dated earlier than 1980 cannot be found or replaced. If you need a certificate and yours cannot be found, you will need to retake the course.
