What Does Microstamping Mean to the Sporting Community?

Contact your legislators! See link at end of article dor assistance.

The following letter by the New York State Conservation Council (NYSCC) was sent to the sporting community and gun owners.

There are two bills in the NYS Legislature proposing that any handgun sold in NYS be capable of microstamping the ammo fired from it. If passed and signed into law these would virtually eliminate the sale of handguns in NYS. Except for those owned by criminals who really don’t care because their guns are illegal now! For the rest of us it would be a problem.

Senate bill S4116 has been referred to the Senate codes committee. Assembly bill A7926 has been referred out of the Assembly codes for a vote.

Both these bills have been around with various numbers for over a decade. When the Republicans controlled the NYS Senate, we could be confident that they would die in committee. With the Democrats firmly in control of the legislature and the executive branch we can no longer be sure where such bills will end up.

If you don’t think they could become law, remember the SAFE act and that our governor is running for reelection.

The NYSCC asks that YOU join in its opposition to these bills by calling the office of both your assembly member and your senator and expressing your opposition. Whether they are Republican, or Democrat doesn’t matter, they still represent you.

Remember that these bills only have to get through the legislature once and be signed into law, whereas we must defend our rights every time.

If you visit the NYSCC web page and click on Legislative, you can use the bill lookup to find both the bills and your representatives.
