The North Troy Stag Rod & Gun Club, under the guidance of its Education Committee, is committed to providing education and training in the shooting sports to members and the public. Club members providing training, on a volunteer basis, include two NRA Training Counselors, more than 25 NRA Certified Instructors in Pistol and 8 NRA Certified Instructors in Shotgun.
 

Courses we do offer, (based upon availability & scheduling)

• Rensselaer County pistol safety for new permit applicants

• Rensselaer County Evaluation course for current permit holders requesting restrictions to be removed

• NRA Basic Pistol

• NRA Basic Shotgun

• NYS Hunter Education (required for a NYS hunting license)

• NYS Bow Hunter Education (required for a NYS bow hunting license)

• NYS Trapping Education (required for a NYS trapping license)

Class Descriptions

Rensselaer County pre-license pistol course
This course is required by the Rensselaer County Court as part of the application process for a pistol permit in Rensselaer County. The course is also accepted by Albany County as part of their application process. Saratoga and Schenectady counties do NOT accept this course and require attendance at a course offered in those respective counties.

Rensselaer County Evaluation Class

For current pistol permit holders in Rensselaer County only. This is an evaluation class, which is part of the process to have your restrictions removed.
